Giacomo Tedeschi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), in the Smart Materials Group.
He has a bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy (2013) and a MSc in Bioengineering from the Università degli Studi di Genova, Italy (2016) with a thesis on biopolymeric materials for tissue engineering under the supervision of Dr. Silvia Scaglione at CNR-IEIIT labs in Genova. After his MSc degree, he worked in a R&D internship in the Humancare Unit at Loccioni Group (Jesi, Italy).
Afterward, he took a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (2020) from the Università degli Studi di Genova, fully sponsored by Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) supervised by Dr. Athanassia Athanassiou and Dr. Josè Alejandro Heredia-Guerrero. During his PhD, he spent a period abroad at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the City College of New York under the supervision of Dr. Ruth E. Stark performing solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) characterization of bioplastic materials based on plant cuticle polymers.
From January 2020 to March 2021 he was involved as Postdoctoral Researcher in a R&D industrial project, sponsored by COVIM spa, for the production of compostable single-serve coffee capsules with engineered mechanical and barrier properties.
Currently Giacomo is involved as Postdoctoral Researcher in a R&D industrial/institutional project in Smart Materials Group - IIT on the design and fabrication of sustainable and biodegradable materials able to replace non-biodegradable plastics for specific everyday applications.
